1. Intro
I have used some camera, from different brand and system, now its time to have a review and appreciate each system’s pro and con.
2. Sony
2.1. NEX-5T (2013)
Sony NEX-5T is my first camera. I bought it pretty cheap in USED condition (around $60), to be honest, it still a quite good camera in 2024 I would say
Pro
- Large sensor (APSC), when I look back some photo I took before, still looks pretty good
- Multiple lens option
- Touch-screen, android-based system which you can install app
- Pocketable size, it may be the second smallest camera I had.
Con
- Almost no control dial, I have to use either auto mode or the screen to control
- Weak battery, the FW50 battery just can’t last long
2.2. A6000 (2014)
NEX5T is perfect for shooting still image, but when my roommates adopted a cute cat, I find that autofocus system is somehow not quick enough to capture the cat motion. So I trade it to MPB and got a A6000 for around $400
Yes, the autofocus is upgraded, the image quality is a little better I would say. But still not a fun camera to use. However, it helped me captured a lot photo during the Graduate school life.
Pro
- Better control (more dial)
- Better autofocus
Con
- Battery
- System and touchscreen, there is no touchscreen, you can only either trust the system selected focus or move the focus point using 4way pad, both not that great.
2.3. A7C II (2023)
This is my latest and currently system. The only camera I bought new (since its too new for me to get a USED one).
Wonderful camera, amazing autofocus for different object, long lasting battery, full touchscreen system and focus point, articulate screen, EVF, large grip, perfect lens. I can’t find anything bad about it
2.4. Lens
Sigma 30mm f/2.8
Sigma 30mm f/1.4
Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6
Sony 55-210mm
3. Fujifilm
3.1. XT2
This is the camera show me what color science is. I bought this camera just before my trip to Hawaii. Maybe as a gift for myself for the Christmas.
It feels solid, heavier than I expected. I don’t expect the camera do anything great since I only got the kit lens 16-50 f/3.5-5.6.
But I really take some of my best photo during the trip. It just capture the moment and I don’t need to touch the post-processing
Sadly, on a beach of Hawaii, I got attacked by a sudden large wave, the camera died, my eye-glasses lost, quite memorable.
Pro
- Build quality (made in Japan)
- Just right color
Con
- Not weather sealed (well, its actually can’t count as con since its just a accident)
- Too heavy
3.2. XS10
Another favorite camera. After I returned the failed XT2, I bought a USED XS10 for like $900 which is a huge number for me when I was a student.
It’s a fantastic camera, I don’t even take RAW with it since the SOOC (straight out of camera) is just fine. I took it to many place like Florida,
