Mainly two types
- Geostationary satellite: high altitude, orbit the Earth at the same rate that the Earth rotates
- Polar Orbiting satellite: orbit at much lower altitude, allow them to scan the entire Earth
- Much shorter orbiting period, orbit about 100-120 minutes
2. Cloud Map
Mainly two camera used to capture the cloud
- Visible light cameras
- Infrared sensors
- Good for night
- Good for determine the cloud height
